ICA's Donor Club visits Manhattan's Lower East Side

Lower East Side donor club tour (2014)

On Thursday, November 6 participants in ICA’s donor clubs were treated to an evening of gallery visits in Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The group began at Sperone Westwater with a tour of Heinz Mack: From Zero to Today, 1955–2014, where connections were made with ICA’s own 1964 exhibition of Group Zero artists (recently revisited during ICA’s 50th anniversary programming).

From there, it was a short stroll to watch Takeshi Murata’s video at Salon 94 Bowery, followed by a brisker walk to see paintings by Klaus Merkel at Joe Sheftel Gallery. Salon94 and Joe Sheftel Gallery represent Jayson Musson and Alex Da Corte, respectively— their collaborative installation Easternsports is presently on view at ICA.

The evening concluded at Lesley Heller Workspace on Orchard Street, owned and operated by Penn alumna Lesley Heller (class of ’83), where artist Brenda Garand spoke about her work on view as attendees enjoyed wine and cheese.

This event was the latest in an annual series of Gallery Walks for ICA donors, which focus on different neighborhoods in New York and feature spaces and artists with a connection to ICA and Penn.
