Coffee & Conversation: The Everyday Prosthetic

Josephine Pryde, *Gift For Me, Simon Lee Gallery Christmas 2013 (1)* (2013)

Enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee and join Penn graduate students for intimate conversations inspired by the ICA exhibitions on view.

chukwumaa, Penn MFA candidate, leads a conversation on the device, object, and touch. Prompted by the ICA exhibition lapses in Thinking By the person i Am, participants will discuss the self-reflexive, haptic, and prosthetic implications of artist Josephine Pryde’s photos and sculpture. Through a close consideration of Pryde’s work we will ask how tools can function as both an endpoint and extension of the human gesture and what can be parsed from a close reading of the way we interact with consumer objects on both a physical and psychological level.
