Coffee and Conversation: A Discussion About Design Mindfulness with Sara M. Pottenger

Ginny Casey_Jessi ReavesSara Pottenger

Enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee with Moore College MFA Candidate Sara M. Pottenger for an intimate conversation about the art objects and experiences in ICA’s current exhibition Ginny Casey & Jessi Reaves.

Everyone has memories associated with specific sensory indicators, such as sounds, smells, shapes, and textures. These memories can be personal or shared by a family, community, or nation. The art objects and experiences in the exhibition Ginny Casey & Jessi Reaves are full of familiar yet estranging opportunities sure to stir and confuse viewer expectation. This talk will center on how these works, and the exhibition in general, impact audience thought pattern in the form of emotion and behavior. The discussion will expand to include design of the everyday, especially commercial culture, and its potential positive and harmful effects on our communities and how it might be combated, subverted, and appropriated to better serve our needs.

This event is free and open to the public; register here.
