Wadud and Strong

Organized by Amber Rose Johnson and Davy Knittle and co-sponsored by the Poetry and Poetics Working Group, Department of English, University of Pennsylvania. Presented in the first floor exhibition Speech/Acts.

Asiya Wadud writes about borders, limits, and the variegated truth. A member of the Belladonna Collaborative, she teaches third grade in the daytime and English to new immigrants and refugees in the evening. Her work has been supported by the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the New York Public Library, among others. In 2017, Portable Press at Yo-Yo Labs published her chapbook, we, too, are but the fold and her first book, crosslight for youngbird, is forthcoming from Nightboat Books in 2018. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, where she loves animals.

Anna Strong lives, teaches, and works in Philadelphia. Her work has previously appeared or is forthcoming in Supplement, Cleaver, and Peregrine. She is tremendously grateful to Davy Knittle and Amber Rose Johnson and her fellow readers for including her in this event.
