Work with ICA’s team to gain valuable museum experience and enrich the arts community at large

Interns play a vital role in ICA’s mission to provide access for all to engage and connect with the art of our time. We recruit energetic, organized, sharp, and creative people for positions in all of our departments, often working closely with individual staff members. Hours are flexible and there are many opportunities to receive professional training, attend lectures and events, and link up with other art lovers.

Business Office
We manage the administration of finance/budgets, facilities, human resources, information technology, and general office operations. Detail-oriented interns with exceptional computing (Excel) and writing skills assist with clerical, research, and accounting tasks, as well as supporting special projects, events, and visitor services.

We research and organize exhibitions, manage traveling shows, work with guest curators, and produce exhibition catalogues. Interns, preferably with Photoshop experience, research exhibition themes, maintain curatorial archives, assist with artist submissions, and respond to inquiries.

We raise a significant part of the museum’s budget through grants, annual giving, membership, and benefits. Interns, who must have evening and weekend availability, assist with research required for funding requests and grant reports, update membership and prospect materials, and help to coordinate opening receptions and special events.

Marketing and Communications: We expand public awareness of ICA through press, web, and community outreach; ad placement; and printed materials. Interns work on special projects related to the museum’s archive and website, the visitor experience, and exhibiting artists. Current available position is listed here.

Programming: We organize the museum’s public programming and, as part of the curatorial department, we work on exhibitions throughout the year. Interns, who must be available on Wednesday evenings, assist with coordinating public programs and events, research, archival work, our website, and liaising with artists.

Publications & Archive/Library: We coordinate the production of all ICA publications and print editions, as well as managing inventory, sales, and distribution. Also, ICA houses an in-house library with ongoing cataloguing and exchange projects. Interns assist in organizing, cataloguing, mailing publications and print editions, researching library titles, and assisting with publication projects as needed.

Public Engagement: We work to foster connections with current and new audiences of ICA and also address visitor services and generate interpretive programs. Interns will work on special events, community outreach, and developing curricular tools.
