About

ICA and Haverford College’s Philadelphia Area Creative Collaboratives (PACC) present “Artist Talk: Look at Art. Get Paid.” Maia Chao and Josephine Devanbu speak about their socially engaged art project, Look at Art. Get Paid., with Carol Zou. They will discuss art’s capacity to model counter-institutions, alternative spaces, and redistribution.

Reframing museum attendance as labor, artist project Look at Art. Get Paid. pays individuals who do not typically go to art museums to visit these institutions as guest critics. Building off of a successful pilot program at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, this model is now being considered by museums in Philadelphia, Boston, Washington D.C., and New York City.

This event is held in conjunction with the Philadelphia Area Creative Collaboratives project called ‘After Work,’ which consists of artists Maia Chao and Josephine Devanbu; Jamila Medley, Executive Director, The Philadelphia Area Cooperative Alliance; Craig Borowiak, Associate Professor of Political Science and Chair of Political Science Department at Haverford College; Borowiak’s course ‘Grassroots Economies: Creating Livelihoods in an Age of Urban Inequality’; John Muse, Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities Visual Media Scholar at Haverford College, and Muse’s course ‘Introduction to Visual Studies.’ More information on this collaborative project can be found at https://collaboratives.haverford.edu/after-work/

Programming at ICA has been made possible in part by the Emily and Jerry Spiegel Fund to Support Contemporary Culture and Visual Arts and the Lise Spiegel Wilks and Jeffrey Wilks Family Foundation, and by Hilarie L. & Mitchell Morgan.

This event is held in partnership with Haverford College’s Philadelphia Area Creative Collaboratives and Look at Art. Get Paid.
