Coffee and Conversation: Authorized Work

Enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee and join Fred Schmidt-Arenales, PennDesign MFA candidate, for a conversation about the ICA exhibition, Introducing Tony Conrad: A Retrospective. The discussion will focus on Conrad’s Beholden to Victory (1980), which was conceived during a period when the artist was grappling with questions of authority in the military and the prison system and their relationship to the context of art and viewership. Through a consideration of this and related works, participants will reflect on and share the ways in which they perform and submit to authority in their own lives.

Programming at ICA has been made possible in part by the Emily and Jerry Spiegel Fund to Support Contemporary Culture and Visual Arts and the Lise Spiegel Wilks and Jeffrey Wilks Family Foundation, and by Hilarie L. & Mitchell Morgan.
