Shesheena creates an intentional space for personal reflection, providing participants with multiple entry points to engage with mindfulness in its various forms. Her only expectation for participants is to simply bring their breath.
Create space, make space, take up space. Mindfulness offers us the opportunity to explore the concept space, and what is possible when more space seems impossible. Drawing inspiration from artist Michelle Lopez, and her use of space in Ballast & Barricades, we will explore how mindfulness helps one to create space within the mind and body.
Participation is free and open to all. Prior meditation experience and special clothing is not required.
Bio
Shesheena A. Bray moved to Philadelphia in 2003 to attend Temple University, where she completed her undergraduate degree in African American Studies and Political Science. In 2014, Shesheena realized her service to Black and Brown communities was best actualized through her passion, mental and emotional wellness. Honing her focus and training, she earned a M.S.Ed in mental health counseling from the University of Pennsylvania. Upon completion, Shesheena started Going Inward Wellness, LLC. In addition to seeing clients one-on-one for therapy, Shesheena also leads psycho-educational groups, and teaches mindfulness in Philadelphia public schools.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness at the Museum is a series of drop-in guided meditation sessions facilitated by skilled holistic practitioners. Our exhibitions serve as the backdrop, as you learn how to become present in the “here and now.” Research shows mindfulness meditation can increase memory skills, foster compassion, and reduce stress. Each encounter is unique from the last, drawing synthesis between the mind and body, leaving participants equipped with knowledge on how to lead a balanced life.
Programming at ICA has been made possible in part by the Emily and Jerry Spiegel Fund to Support Contemporary Culture and Visual Arts and the Lise Spiegel Wilks and Jeffrey Wilks Family Foundation, and by Hilarie L. & Mitchell Morgan.
