The Leeway Foundation in partnership with The BlackStar Film Festival presents the #BlackExcellenceTour, a collaborative social justice project created by CeCe McDonald and Joshua Allen. The #BlackExcellenceTour is a 90 min. interactive workshop modeled after the tradition of civil rights and anti-apartheid activists. CeCe and Joshua travel the country work-shopping, speaking and organizing around issues of race, gender, sexuality, and class while centering those most marginal in their work.
This event is free with required registration. Please register here.
CeCe McDonald is a black trans woman activist and speaker who serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the LGBTQ community. She came to national attention after surviving a brutal attack by transphobic, white supremacists in 2012 and going on to speak out against the injustices that trans and gender nonconforming folks of color face for being their true selves. She is the star of the recently released documentary Free CeCe!
Joshua Allen is a black gender nonconforming activist and organizer whose work revolves around gender, race and policing. Rising to widespread recognition in movements for justice in 2014, Joshua was one of the first activists of the #BlackLivesMatter movement on the ground after the murders of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Since then, Joshua has been regarded as one of the leading voices in conversations around gender and sexuality in movements for justice.
