Film Program

Big Time-My Doodled Diary (dir. Sonali Gulati, 2015, 12 min.)
A delightful and intimate exploration of youthful obsession, budding sexuality, and what it means to be a teenager, which all too often sucks, big time.

Boneshaker (dir. Frances Bodomo, 2013, 12 min.)
A Ghanaian family travels to a Pentecostal church in Louisiana to cure their violent daughter.

Pearl Was Here (dir. Kate Marks, 2013, 9 min.)
A wild child finds solace in a sea of stuffed animals. This is not a film for kids who have spellingbee trophies, sweet dreams, or homes that smell like supper.

Recognition (dir. Tiona McClodden, 2015, 4 min.)
This music video features THEESatisfaction performing their lead single “Recognition” from their second studio album EarthEE.

Drexciya (dir. Akosua Adoma Owusu, 2010, 12 min.)
A portrait of an abandoned public swimming facility located in Accra, Ghana. Inspired by the myth of a Detroit-based Underground Resistance.

I Told Her This Was Home (dir. Irit Reinheimer, 2013, 7 min.)
Based on an actual dream, Reinheimer’s film maps the comforts and restlessness of a constant search for home.

Cusps (dir. Sara Zia Ebrahimi, 2008, 15 min.)
In this personal documentary Sara Zia Ebrahimi explores her experiences living as an urban nomad and immigrant in the postindustrial landscape of Philadelphia neighborhoods.
