Photo: Ivan Monforte
About

This panel discussion and poetry art presentation will look at visual and textual works which trouble the divisions of states, languages, cultures, and genders. The focus will be on contemporary queer artistry in the forms of photography, performance, poetry, and anime/ manga in queer, trans, Blacks, Pacific, and Asian contexts. Moderated by the Alice Paul Center artist-in-residence Ricardo Bracho.

Invited presenters include:

  • Ivan Monforte, whose work in performance, installation, and photography details New York’s queer male leather world, queer and trans youth of color, the fa’afafine community in Samoa, transmen of color, and self-portraiture.
  • Poet Keith Harris, who creates work on black male homosexuality and the rhetoric of revolution within queer liberation and black nationalist discourses.
  • Writer Anne Ishii, who works within Japanese and US contexts with gay manga publications.

In collaboration with the Alice Paul Center.
