About

In conjunction with Colored People Time: Banal Presents, ICA is proud to host the Transcribez Writing Workshop. Bring a piece of writing by your favorite trans author or your own work to share/workshop with others. Transcribez is a welcoming and fun community writing space where youth can explore their own creative voice amongst other trans/GNC individuals. Poets, musicians, playwrights, comic book artists, journalists, fiction writers, and more are welcome, but no prior experience is necessary!

Founded in 2016, Transcribez is a monthly creative writing group that is open and free of charge for youth ages 14–24 who identify as transgender or gender non-conforming (GNC). Trans and GNC-identified guest writers lead the group, and trans-identified facilitators attend and support all monthly sessions. Transcribez meets the second Saturday of every month from 12:00 – 2:00 PM, providing lunch (pizza/soda), transportation passes, and notebooks/pens/pencils for all attendees.

Past guest writers have included current Philadelphia Poet Laureate Raquel Salas Rivera, Youth Poet Laureate Otter Jung-Allen, Pew Fellow CAConrad, LAMBDA award-winner Trish Salah, and Washington DC’s Ms Latinx Pride 2018-2019, Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi.
