The work of these six young artists reflects the introspective mood of the times and illustrates the refreshing diversity of recent American art. Cohen, McCoy, Nonas, Porter, Sanderson and Steir do not belong to a school or movement, rather they are loosely linked by a common knowledge of the available aesthetic options and joined by a willingness to appropriate elements and ideas from other cultures and disciplines. They elaborate and renew existing formal possibilities for their own private exploration.
