Vija Celmins encompassed nearly thirty years of work by this pre-eminent artist whose works call forth elusive moments rigorously brought to life through trenchant attention to details. This exhibition, comprised of over eighty works, included many of the artist’s more idiosyncratic pieces including a six foot high Magritte comb, a clear Perspex jigsaw puzzle, and a set of fourteen bronze rocks along with the more familiar paintings, drawings, and etchings.
Vija Celmins was accompanied by the most comprehensive book on the artist’s work to-date featuring three illuminating essays by curator Judith Tannenbaum, artist Douglas Blau, and cultural critic Dave Hickey.
