The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania (free) is the city’s most prestigious space for modern work, with exhibitions that don’t shy away from provocation. It hosted the first museum solo show for Andy Warhol and early work by Laurie Anderson, and its more recent productions, works from artists like Robert Crumb, Gillian Wearing and Rodney McMillian, have been no less exciting.
