ICA and Visual AIDS commission work for the 25th Anniversary of Day With(out) Art

ALTERNATE ENDINGS

Visual AIDS has commissioned a video program that features provocative work about the ongoing HIV/AIDS pandemic for the 25th Anniversary of Day With(out) Art, which took place on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2014. ALTERNATE ENDINGS highlights the diverse voices of seven artists — Rhys Ernst, Glen Fogel, Lyle Ashton Harris, Derek Jackson, Tom Kalin, My Barbarian, and Julie Tolentino — who use a mix of found footage, live performance, still photos, and robotic cameras to weave together connections between personal stories and public memories.

Included in ALTERNATE ENDINGS is Tom Kalin’s short video “Ashes,” which layers dates and moments from Kalin’s personal world with the public and global history of HIV/AIDS.

The program will be screening internationally Dec 1-7 at over 50 venues.

BackStory: 13 years of HIV/AIDS on Wikipedia

ICA observed the 25th Day With(out) Art with a new web-based commission by Berlin-based artist and designer Florian Kräutli.

BackStory occupied the home page of ICA’s website for 24 hours on World AIDS Day, December 1, and remains on a separate page until February 1, 2015. Read more about the commission here.
