The Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) at the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie Garcia as the 2018-2019 Van Doren Fellow. The Van Doren Fellow works within both the ICA and the Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing at the University of Pennsylvania to implement collaborative interdisciplinary projects for students between the two organizations as well as on new initiatives to increase student access and involvement.

Prior to joining ICA, Garcia helped develop a class for Penn in collaboration with Common Press and the Penn Undergraduate Fine Arts Department. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Pennsylvania and was the recipient of the 2018 Fine Arts Outstanding Graduating Senior Award. She was also a studio assistant for a project featured in Philadelphia Contemporary’s Festival for the People. She currently serves as an assistant curator and the editorial coordinator for Monument Lab, a national public art and history project based in Philadelphia, and is a project assistant for Amber Art and Design, an art collective dedicated to making positive and sustainable changes within the Philadelphia community.
